Help! There’s a chef in my kitchen!
With one person soon to start culinary school, these clients wanted a kitchen that could stand up to the rigors of recipe testing and the demands of a soon-to-be pro chef. Oh, and can it be elegant too?
Keeping within the same footprint, I completely redesigned the space to make way for the professional-grade appliances needed for her new career. Balancing the industrial stainless-steel pieces became essential to the design and cabinetry panels were used where possible to conceal warming drawers and other traditionally metal elements.
The large exhaust fan was concealed in a custom-designed mantle-style hood, and sparkling tile draws your eye to the splash area, and away from the rather large proportion of the range. Granite tops, a farm sink and furniture-style hardware all add visual interest, and plenty of well-concealed storage allows the eye to wander about the well-detailed millwork.
The result is a commercial kitchen within a homey and comfortable space where guests feel welcomed and well fed.
Pass the canapés, please.
